Here's another slice-of-life picture. After the Armistice, some of the chasers stationed at Corfu (Base 25) participated in post-war dutues along the Adriatic coast, notably at Durazzo (Durrës), Albania, where they assisted with the short-term control and transfer of Austrian warships.
Others, including SC 93, were homeward bound, although for some officers and crews, duties helping with the clearing of the North Sea mine barrage would delay the journey home.
Lt. (j.g.) George S. Dole is shown here at Malta, trading hats with a Maltese girl on a stop along the way. (A very small and not very clear photo, unfortunately.) In his letters he talks about pleasant days visiting there. Dole would shift from his command of SC 93 to SC 354, first for service in Northern Russia, then on the North Sea minefields. The stop in Malta must indeed have seemed like a pleasant interlude.
