Vol. 7, No. 11, November 2011

Recently I've had some interesting correspondence with collectors of postal history items. William Clair (see the page on "Red" Thompson) pointed out an article in the Military Postal History Society Bulletin, on the submarine war in WWI, showing covers from USS Manning and USS Ossipee, among other items.

Two interesting inclusions are covers from USS Sacramento and USS Yankton. These were two of the vessels that took part in the Northern Russia Expedition in 1919. Three chasers, SC 354, SC 95 and SC 256, took part in duties in the White Sea in that expedition, along with Eagle boats 1, 2 and 3. USS Des Moines served as flagship.

Recently posted are some images submitted by another postal collector, Jim Felton, showing the service of CMM William Wetherell on SC 206 -- and, more to come, later.
