Vol. 12 No. 12, December, 2016

Among the more notable events involving submarine chasers in WWI was the bombardment of Durazzo harbor on 2 October, 1918. Eleven chasers participated in the attack on an enemy submarine base on the coast of Albania. (Details of this event may be found in my book, Hunters of the Steel Sharks: The Submarine Chasers of WWI, available at http://signallightbooks.com/hunters.)

A set of photos of the bombardment are posted on the Durazzo bombardment page.

One of the chasers that participated in the Durazzo bombardment was submarine chaser SC 227. This chaser also is notable as being involved in th last reported ASW attack by a chaser in the war, an event near Gibraltar on 11 November, 1918.

This month a new (better) photo of SC 227 is posted on the SC 227 page. Also, two new crew photographs, showing crewman Ferdinand Gaston Adams. Thanks to Rex Linville for submitting the scans to The Subchaser Archives.
