The rudder on the 110' chaser was operated by means of cables run from the wheel to the rudder quadrant, in some cases along the outside of the bulwarks and in some cases along the inside.
In either case, the cable ran beneath a shield where it passed across the deck between the pilot house and the bulwarks, as shown here:
