Joseph C. Day was CO of submarine chaser SC 131. This image from his collection (show in two pieces) shows the crews of SC 227, SC 131, SC 151, and (I think) SC 217, all of which are among the chasers that served at Corfu (Base 25)

Day's background involved a sea-going tradition, his father having operated the Day Shipyard in Damariscotta, Maine, bulding wooden sailing vessels.

Note the added-on light box on the bearing indicator.

Thanks to Jonathan Day (grandson of Joseph Day) for submitting the images to The Subchaser Archives.
