Submarine chaser SC 306 was built at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, WA, and was commissioned on 11 May 1918 at Puget Sound. SC 306 was assigned to the 12th Naval District, and served along the Pacific coast of the U.S. and Mexico.
